Huge win for the Cats in what may have been a must win game to keep their March Madness hopes alive. After losing to Providence twice last season, Cashmere Wright scored a Bearcats season high 24 points to lead the Cats to a 92-88 victory. His 24 points were the most a UC player has ever scored against Providence College.
Five Cats scored in double-digits, with Rashad Bishop scoring 16 and grabbing six boards. Deonta Vaughn and Lance Stephenson scored 12 points, Stephenson added a game-high nine rebounds. Suprisingly, the uncoordinated Darnell Wilks added 10 points.
The Cats shot 57.1 percent from the field, while outrebounding the Friars 38-33.
It was the third time this season UC scored over 90 points, the third time five Bearcats scored in double-digits and the eigth time UC shot over 50 percent from the field.
UC moves to 5-4 in the Big East, tying their best start in conference action. They have five winnable games in their next six. They face ND, Uconn and South Florida, who they have already beat, plus Syracuse, Marquette and Depaul. It is possible, maybe I'm being a bit too positive, that they could win five of those six. It they can do that, the Cats are in prime shape to be playing in March.
